美國總統川普在美墨邊境設立圍牆，主要是防止非法移民進入；不過有兩名建築系教授，不滿川普的作法，利用高牆的空隙設計粉紅色翹翹板，讓兩國孩童即使隔著牆，也能一起玩耍。
綜合外媒報導，吸睛的「粉紅翹翹板」是來自美國加州大學柏克萊分校建築系教授瑞爾（Ronald Rael）和聖荷西州立大學設計系教授夫拉泰洛（Virgina San Fratello）的創意。兩人表示，這個構想歷經了10年才實現，藉此表達對川普逐起2000英里高牆的不滿。

「粉紅翹翹板」被設置在美國德州厄爾巴索郊區（El Paso）和墨西哥華雷斯城（Ciudad Juárez）交界處。瑞爾表示，其實這個構想在10年前已經產生，不過見到自己的點子實現，是他和夫拉泰洛「最美好的經歷之一」。

當他們看到許多孩童玩得不亦乎時，描述原先令人感到恐懼的邊界，瞬時化身「充滿喜悅、驚喜，並拉近兩邊民眾的距離」的連結，令人意識到「一方所發生的事情，也會對另一方產生直接的影響」。
